Meet Michelle Owusu.
Michelle Owusu is a writer, filmmaker, and emerging voice in speculative fiction and independent film, based in Calgary, Alberta.
She wrote and produced The Surrogate, a short film exploring intimacy, grief, and healing through a young man’s unconventional attempt to reconnect with his absent father. Her debut middle-grade novel, Plant Blood, is a speculative eco-fantasy that weaves together climate justice, girlhood, and magic. The story is a love letter to nature and young voices fighting to be heard.
Michelle’s work explores identity, transformation, and the quiet courage it takes to be yourself. Her storytelling is rooted in creative passion and formal training in acting, screenwriting, and change consulting. She is especially drawn to stories that center marginalized perspectives and use imagination as a tool for healing and connection.
